Verify Your Account
Learn more about the process to verify your New York Times digital account.
The New York Times offers a personalized experience for each Subscriber. As a result, it is important to ensure that every Subscriber is accessing their own unique account in order to make the most of our many features and experiences.
As a security measure, you may be asked to authenticate each device you use to access your New York Times account.
You will verify your account using a code sent to the email address associated with the account.
If you want to share The Times with friends and family, consider a Family Subscription. This affords up to four individuals their own accounts on a single subscription, so that everyone can receive the full New York Times Subscriber experience – such as Games stats and streaks, personalized News coverage, individual Cooking recipe boxes, and more.

Troubleshooting
Unable to access the email
If you no longer have access to the email associated with the account, follow the steps to Change Your Email Address.
If you do not have access to the email because you are not the account owner, create your own New York Times Account:
- Select Create a new account when prompted to verify your account
- Enter your email address and select Continue
- Choose the best subscription option for you
Not receiving the verification code
- Confirm the email address the code is being sent to is correct.
- Check any spam or junk folders for the email containing the authentication code.
- Privacy blockers, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), and cache blockers may interfere with successfully receiving the code, or cause the device to require authentication. It may be helpful to temporarily disable these features in order to successfully authenticate your device.
- Select Send verification code to send the code again to verify the new device or browser to resolve the issue.
If you are still not receiving the code after completing the previous troubleshooting steps, please contact Customer Care.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I seeing the message to verify my account?
These prompts can sometimes appear when a subscription is being accessed across multiple devices or locations. Individual subscriptions are intended for use by one person, and shouldn’t be shared with others. This verification step helps ensure that only the account holder has access, and that the current device should still have access to the account.
Why are you repeatedly making me verify my account?
You may need to re-verify your account:
- When using a different device (phone, tablet, etc.)
- When using a different browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.)
- When using privacy features such as Privacy blockers, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), and cache blockers
I cannot access the email address shown. How do I get my verification code?
Follow the steps to Change Your Email.
I’ve always shared my account with others, why am I not able to now?
Subscriptions have always been intended for individual use. Our Terms of Service are unchanged, stating that subscribers should not share their login credentials.
As we continue to evolve our products, it's increasingly important that Subscribers are logged into their own accounts so they can benefit from personalized experiences across The New York Times. Family Subscriptions enable households to share access while giving each person their own login.
