Recipe Scaling
Learn more about recipe scaling, including how to use this option and where to find it on The New York Times Cooking app.
New York Times Cooking offers the option to halve or double recipes, providing a way for home cooks to make fewer servings or larger portions. The ingredient measurements are scaled in both the ingredient list and preparation steps. Some pan sizes have been adjusted as well, but temperatures and times have not. Follow the recipe’s listed sensory cues and adjust the equipment sizes, times, and temperatures as needed, and seasonings to taste.
Note: The ingredients are automatically scaled and have not been editorially tested in this beta feature, which may result in occasional errors in ingredient quantities. A Beta feature is released to help us learn whether our customers are interested in the feature and what improvements should be made before it becomes permanent.

How to Use the Recipe Scaling Feature
The Recipe Scaling feature is available in the Cooking app for iOS and Android.
To change the scale of a recipe, select the icon in the top right corner of the Ingredients under the Metric Conversion ruler:

Here, you can choose between halving or doubling the recipe. When recipe scaling is active, the adjusted ingredients will show in orange. When printing recipes or using Cook Mode, there will be a visual indicator letting you know that recipe scaling is active.
Your scaling selection will only apply to the specific recipe you enable it on; recipes will revert to their original scale if viewing another recipe or starting a new session.
This feature will adjust yield, ingredient measurements, and any additional ingredients listed in Preparation; ingredients will retain their original amounts in the grocery list.
Share Feedback on Recipe Scaling
If the scaling option causes an issue with a recipe, select Send us feedback about ingredient scaling in this recipe from any recipe to let us know what went wrong. This section will also indicate if metric conversion is also in use.
