About Badges
Badges are rewards you can earn through gameplay. They let you celebrate specific achievements, mark important milestones, and look back on the moments that made your journey special.
What Games Have Badges Available?
Badges are currently available for Wordle, Connections, and Spelling Bee. More games will have badges in the future!
Who Can Earn a Badge?
Badges are available to anyone with a New York Times account to earn and collect! You do not need a subscription to New York Times Games to earn badges. To save your badges across all devices, we recommend linking them to your account by creating a New York Times account or signing in with an existing New York Times account.
How Do I Earn Badges?
Badges will be awarded automatically as you play and they can be earned when playing on the Games app, web browser, or in the Play tab of the News app.
Some badges are for playing on a specific date. These can only be earned on that day. Playing in the archive later won’t count.
If you earned a badge, it will appear below your stats after completing the puzzle. You can select the badge to learn more about it.
Some badges can be earned in real time while playing the game. When that happens, these badges will pop up at the bottom of your screen. You can select the badge to learn more about it, or you can select the X to dismiss.

Where to View Badges and Badges I Can Earn?
On the Web and in the News App:
Select the Stats icon in the top right of Wordle, Connections, or Spelling Bee.
Here you can:
- See your 3 most relevant badges
- Select a badge to view details on how to earn it
- Select the button below your badges to see your remaining badges in the Games app
In the Games App:
- Select the Me Tab at the bottom of the screen
- Select View all badges
- Additionally, you can also expand any of the game cards below to see your badges in that game

New badges will be added to more games in the future and existing games will also have more badges added periodically. Make sure to check back to see what’s new!
What Are “Earned Retroactively” Badges?
Some badges might be labeled as Earned Retroactively. This means you earned the badge on a date before the badge was introduced, so it has been automatically awarded to you. Badges you earn in the future will show the exact date that you earned them.

Why Haven’t I Received a Badge?
When you view all badges for a game, you can see the status of your progress towards each one. A progress bar shows how many more times you must complete an action in order to earn the badge.
Some badges are special challenges that can only be earned after the badge is released. Puzzle activity from before a badge launched won’t count toward earning it.
Why Can’t I See All My Badges On The Web?
A full list of badges is available in the Games App. On the web, you will always see your most recently earned badge, a badge you are on your way to earning, and a badge you have not earned yet.
Can I Earn The Same Badge More Than Once?
Some badges can be earned more than once. For these badges, a counter will display when you have earned the badge 2 or more times. If you’ve earned a badge more than once, the date displayed will reflect the most recent time you earned that badge.

Some badges will level up at certain milestone numbers. For example, you can earn a new badge for hitting 50 Geniuses, after earning the previous levels of 5, 10, 15, and 25.

Some badges, like streak badges, cannot be earned more than once. After that, if you earn a 7-day streak badge, break your streak, and then achieve a 7-day streak again, you will not earn the badge a second time.
Note: Existing players will automatically receive a streak badge that matches their max streak, which is their highest lifetime streak.

Will I Lose My Badges If I Switch Devices?
No, as long as you are logged into your account your badge data will be stored across devices.
