Purchase or Upgrade to a Family Subscription
Family Subscriptions can be purchased at nytimes.com/family.
If you already have a subscription to The New York Times and wish to upgrade to a Family Subscription, you can do so in your Account. Follow the instructions in the Change Your Subscription Help Center article.
Note: If your existing subscription is billed through a third-party, such as Apple or Google Play, please cancel your subscription via the third-party before purchasing a Family Subscription.
Manage Your Family Subscription
Only the primary Subscriber can manage the Family Subscription, which includes managing invites, billing, and cancelling the subscription. All additional Subscribers can manage their own account information.
Invite Management
The primary Subscriber can manage the invitations associated with the Family Subscription.
How do I invite/revoke a secondary Subscriber to my Family subscription?
Navigate to nytimes.com/account/family-subscription and invite another Subscriber by entering their email. Additional Subscribers can also be invited by copying an invitation link and sending it to them via the messaging app of your choice. To revoke access, select Revoke next to the email address of the additional Subscriber.
Why can’t I invite the person I want to to my Family subscription?
Most often, this will be because they have an existing subscription for the same product(s) as the Family subscription you are trying to invite them to. They will first need to cancel and wait for their subscription to expire before they can join your Family Subscription.
Note: If an additional Subscriber wants to maintain the account with their existing saved articles, recipes, Games stats/streaks, and other settings, the Family Subscription invitation must be accepted using the email address associated with that account. Using a different email will create a new account, and accounts cannot be merged.
Billing Management
The primary Subscriber is the only person on the Family Subscription that has access to the billing information on the account. To learn more about billing management, review Manage Your Billing in our Help Center.
Account Management
Each Subscriber on a Family Subscription can manage their own account, including:
Note: To change your email address, the email address must not be associated with any other New York Times account. If it is, please select Contact Customer Care at the bottom of the page.
The primary Subscriber is the only user who can cancel the Family Subscription. From your Account, select Subscription Overview. Select Cancel your Subscription in the Manage Subscription section, and follow the instructions to cancel.
