Redeem Your Gift
Gift redemption codes are one-time use codes.
To redeem a gift code:
- Enter the gift redemption code provided in the gift notification email on our gift subscription redemption page.
- Follow the prompts to activate your subscription.
- During the redemption process, you will be asked to create a new account to activate your gift subscription if you don’t already have one.
- You must accept the Terms of Service and review the Privacy Policy of The New York Times.
- Your subscription begins as soon as you redeem your gift. If your gift is a renewal it will start at the end of your current gift subscription.
Please note, a gift cannot be successfully redeemed if:
- The gift code is invalid.
- The gift code has already been redeemed.
- More than one year has passed since the gift has been delivered.
- The email address used to redeem the gift code is linked to an existing subscription that overlaps with the gift, e.g., a user is attempting to redeem a Games gift when they already have a Games subscription.
The value of any gift redemption code left unredeemed after one year from the date of issue will be contributed to The New York Times Sponsor a Student Program. Contributed gift redemption codes are no longer redeemable.
Redeem Your Renewed Gift
If the gift giver renews your gift for another year, you will receive an email with another gift code to redeem so you can take advantage of this renewal.
To redeem a renewed gift code, enter the gift redemption code provided in the gift notification email at nytimes.com/code/redeem.
If your renewed gift subscription has the same product as your previous gift, it will take effect after your current gift subscription ends. For example, if your current gift is a Games gift subscription, and the purchaser buys another Games or All Access (which includes Games) gift subscription for you, this renewal will start after your current gift subscription expires.
Extend Your Access
At the end of the gift subscription period, gift recipients will still have access to limited content. If a gift recipient wishes to continue with that same level of access they had during the gift subscription period, they can extend their New York Times access by purchasing their own subscription.
For example, after receiving an All Access gift subscription, a gift recipient can buy their own All Access subscription to extend the access they had as their gift. All saved articles, recipes, and stats are attached to your New York Times account. Purchasing your own subscription will not erase any saved content as long as the purchase was made using the New York Times account you used to redeem your gift subscription. The newly purchased subscription will begin upon expiration of the current gift subscription, and your payment method will be charged in advance. You can view your gift subscription end date in your account.
Gift purchasers are not billed for subscriptions purchased by gift recipients.
Track and Manage Your Gift in Account
You can track your gifts, including their expiration and start dates, in the Subscription Overview section of your account.
