The Sponsor a Student Subscription Program

Learn about the Sponsor a Student Program, including how you can contribute.

When you suspend your Home Delivery subscription for a vacation or other reasons, you can choose to contribute the credits to The New York Times Sponsor a Student Subscription Program. This program provides New York Times digital access to high schools in the United States.

Currently, this program provides digital access to The New York Times to more than 1.6 million high school students across the country, predominantly through the generous support of Home Delivery subscribers who contribute their suspended delivery credits.

By participating in this program, when you contribute your Home Delivery credits, you are supporting  independent journalism and communities across the country by empowering the next generation of readers.

Next time you are going out of town and need to suspend your newspaper delivery, consider contributing those credits to the Sponsor a Student Program!

What do schools receive through this program?

There are two types of student subscriptions that schools can choose from:

  • Subscriptions that give access to NYTimes.com in school only
  • Subscriptions that give access to NYTimes.com and The New York Times News App in school and at home

As part of this program, we encourage all teachers and students to utilize the New York Times Learning Network. This includes the rich archive of lesson plans along with a daily slate of student activities that are free for schools everywhere and a popular resource for school teachers.

You can get a deeper look at the program and The Times’s involvement in education throughout history by reading the Times Insider article, “The Times in the Schools; or Get Them While They’re Young”.
