About Wordle

Wordle is a daily word game where players have six attempts to guess a five letter word. Feedback for each guess is given in the form of colored tiles to indicate if letters match the correct position. Daily words are curated by editors using the Oxford Dictionary.

Currently, you do not have to register or sign in to play as Wordle is free to play on all platforms. We do recommend creating a New York Times account or signing in with an existing New York Times account so you can play Wordle across devices or platforms while retaining your progress and stats.

Where to Play

You can play Wordle in the Games app at nytimes.com/games/wordle, or in the Play tab of The New York Times News app.

When to Play

The daily Wordle game releases at midnight in your timezone.

Wordle Statistics

Your Wordle progress and statistics will automatically link to your New York Times account. Confirm you are logged into your New York Times account or signed in with an existing New York Times account to save your statistics.

After you complete a Wordle puzzle your stats appear on the Thank you for playing today! page. You can also view your stats during a game by selecting the bar graph icon at the top right of the page to view your Wordle statistics.

Your Statistics page contains your Wordle stats (Played, Win %, Current Streak, and Max Streak) with an accompanying bar graph of your Guess Distribution. If you are a subscriber, your Statistics reflect the puzzles you have played, including both daily and archive puzzles.

  • Played counts total number of Wordle puzzles played
  • Win % counts the percentage of total puzzles played that you have won
  • Current Streak counts consecutive wins. Puzzles must be solved before midnight local time to be included in the current streak.
  • Max Streak is the longest streak you’ve held

Note: If you finish a puzzle after midnight local time, your streak will be broken and a new streak will begin.

Wordle Bot

Wordle Bot is a tool that will take your completed Wordle and analyze it for you. It will tell you how skillful or lucky you were and it could help improve your results. This tool is available to New York Time Games, All Access, News, and Home Delivery subscribers.

Wordle Bot is available in the Games app for iOS and Android, the News app under the Play tab, and on the web - Wordle Bot.

You can find more information about Wordle Bot in the article, Introducing Wordle Bot, The Upshot’s Daily Wordle Companion.

Wordle Archive

The Wordle archive allows All Access (included with Home Delivery) and Games subscribers to play the full archive of Wordle puzzles from as far back as June 19th, 2021! This includes many Wordles from before The New York Times acquired and began curating the game in November 2022. There are a few things to note about Wordle archive:

  • Progress and play history on archived Wordle puzzles is only available if you have a New York Times account.
  • Playing Wordle puzzles in the archive does affect your Wordle Stats (Puzzles Played, Win %, and Guess Distribution).
  • Playing Wordle puzzles in the archive does not affect your streaks (Current streaks and Max streaks). Streaks are only counted based on the puzzle you play on the day of release.

Subscribers can access the Wordle archive:

  • On a web browser at nytimes.com/crosswords via the navigation menu.
  • In the Wordle Archive section in the Games app.
  • The archive is not available in the Play tab of the News app.

Puzzle progress:

  • An outlined gray box - The puzzle has not been started.
  • Gold lines - The puzzle is in progress. The number of gold lines indicate how many guesses you have made on that puzzle.
  • Green star - Completed puzzles, whether won or lost. Completed Wordles cannot be replayed.

Wordle Archive Progress

Note: As of 2025, we updated the statistics calculation to include archive play. Therefore, playing archived Wordles does affect your Wordle Stats. However, if you do not have your Wordle stats linked to a New York Times account your progress on archived Wordles will not be saved. Your progress on archived Wordles will be saved from the date your account is linked and onward.
